![]() The research found that brands have moved away from this due to fear of alienating an increasingly feminist-aware female customer. However, the research found that alcohol and related culture remain feminist issues for a number of reasons:ġ) Women are targeted by alcohol brands through the use of gender stereotypes, and historically, brands have sexualised, objectified and demeaned women to target the male market. Women have won the ‘right to drink’ on equal grounds to men, making alcohol use, drinking culture and nightlife participation a sign of gender equality. As a result, they are now active participants in drinking and night time spaces for group bonding, friendship, fun, and empowerment. This is a result of the shifting social positions of women through increased participation in education and work, which has led to increased economic independence and access to public space, and the targeting of women by commercial messaging. In recent decades a narrowing of the gender gap in alcohol use has been observed. Every frame is filled with dazzling colour that from its opening minutes drew me in and made me want to know what happened next once the credits started to roll. I was amazed at how beautiful the entire program looked. From the sweeping action to the fictional city that the series takes place in. After seeing the opening three episodes (roughly 45 minutes per episode), you get a clear understanding of the plot but also a sense of intrigue as to what will happen next.įirstly, the animation is breath-taking. This is a wholly original story mixed with stunning animation and a funny yet slightly awkward at times coming-of-age story. We have seen this set up in superhero films many times over the years, either in big-budget blockbusters or in television shows, but after seeing it in both formats for many years I have wanted to see something new with the material. The story follows a teenager whose father is the most powerful superhero on the planet. It is an adult animated series set in a world filled with superheroes and people with a variety of powers. The premise for Invincible is fairly straightforward. Amazon are now releasing their second show surrounding superheroes and this will definitely be one that Comic-Book fans around the world will adore! Yet their overly-violent series The Boys has been a hit worldwide by spinning the world of superheroes on its head and telling a great adaptation from the original story in the comics. I have been a big fan of these TV shows and movies but after watching the first three episodes of Amazon Prime's brand new animated series, Invincible, this is definitely a show you must watch.Īmazon Studios have been releasing some fantastic content over the past few months, including Academy Award nominee Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm and the highly anticipated Coming 2 America. Nonetheless, when Amanda was frightened, she reached out to hold Rudy’s hand. Even Monster Girl (Amanda) felt off about it and Rudy did it for her. Rex responded exactly like we assumed he would by being weirded out. Let’s not forget that Robot (now Rudy) dropped a bomb on everyone by showing up as young Rex. ![]() We love to display the words via a projector or a jumbo screen or two. While singing from a hymnal is a great old-school way to praise, most modern churches have opted for a more technological solution. Of course, you can’t sing songs without knowing the lyrics. Side Note: For an incredible articulation on biblical worship, have a look at this sermon from Dove Award winning songwriter, Caleb Culver. The Church loves to sing its praises out to our God. It doesn’t matter if you worship with a hymnal and an organ or a fifteen-piece worship band and a smoke machine. ![]() Worship is one of the key aspects of most modern western churches. If you’re wondering why I wanted to start with a random dissertation about details and quality control in church, it’s because it sets me up for the main (and to many the insignificant) topic I wanted to talk about in this post: worship backgrounds. If he sees us wander too far into a perfectionist-driven “performance mode” or head the other way toward apathy and disinterest, it can have a negative impact on our ministry. It’s a middle ground of care and concern where the Lord loves to see us labor. I don’t care if you’re a pastor of a megachurch, you’re spreading the gospel in a tiny mountain village of Nepal, or you’re raising a family, you have to be properly invested in the daily details that come with your calling. I wanted to start with a quick shoutout to this need to be detail-oriented - with the right mindset, of course - because it’s critical to a well-lived Christian life. Tending to the tiny details of a service is a small-yet-powerful way that we can show God we are invested in the work that He has called us to. We’re called to pay attention to the details not because we care about the performance but because we care about the Creator. This isn’t because the mistakes are going to ruin someone’s walk with the Lord or because it’s up to us to make sure they encounter God each Sunday morning. We are called to pour our best into our service to God. Everyone is aware of that classic verse from Colossians 3, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” The Holy Spirit can take each wrong note and botched reference and supernaturally weave it into a powerful, Spirit-led encounter between the Lord and His people.Įven so, it doesn’t remove the responsibility that we collectively share to bring our utmost effort to bear on our work in the Kingdom. After all, we’re all there for more than just a production. If a preacher gets a reference wrong or the gain is too high on the soundboard, it isn’t going to completely ruin the church experience. If the volume on the bassist’s amp is too high or a major detail is missing in the announcements, it can throw the congregation off. However, each of these larger elements is made up of countless little factors that collectively add up to the overall experience. ![]() Obvious big-ticket items like the sermon, sermon illustrations, sermon series graphics, special presentations, and praise and worship often hog the spotlight. There are countless elements that go into a quality worship service. What is Ashura?įor Muslims, Ashura marks the day God delivered the Israelites, led by the Prophet Musa (Moses), from the tyranny of Egypt’s Pharaoh by parting the Red Sea, thus allowing them to cross safely. Middle East Eye takes a closer look at the day and how it is marked by Muslims. Many leading Shia Islamic jurists, including the late Iranian leader Ayatollah Khomeini, have either condemned the act or argued that it is redundant in the modern era, but a minority of religious figures continue to stress its importance, usually with the caveat that no harm occurs to those taking part in the ritual. One controversial aspect of the Shia mourning of Hussein is the practice among some of self-flagellation, or tatbir. While some Sunni Muslims do take part in mourning ceremonies for Hussein, especially followers of Sufi traditions, the events are less intense than their Shia counterparts. The battle took place in 680 CE and while it became one of the causes of the split between Shia and Sunni Muslims, it happened long before religious differences between Sunni and Shia factions had crystallised.įor example, Sunnis also revere Hussein and many also take a negative view of Yazid, who is often criticised for his impiety.
